Interview with Dino Janakiev

Why Semos Education?

I was asked this question very frequently while I was attending the Academy, and even now from time to time. I say, “Why not Semos Education?” Program created for years, perfected and comprised of everything necessary to lay the foundations of the profession of a Graphic Designer in one academic year. Then, quality staff of trainers who are fully committed to share their rich experience in the field of creativity, because we are not only talking about graphic design.

And finally, Career Center ready to help us find job in the industry. And the positive experiences and impressions of students from previous generations are perhaps one of the crucial factors that personally brought me to Semos Education without any hesitation.

Which is the best advice you heard at Semos Education and do you pass it on others?

Although in a year of study and friendship we gave each other many useful tips and the list would be endless, I would still single out something that I always discuss with people who want to take this path.

By far the most important thing is to work daily and persistently, with maximum dedication and constant research, in order to finally achieve the desired result and in that one academic year a person understands and learns everything possible about the profession of a Graphic Designer. And while it sounds like cliché, this is key to success. Any excuse we give ourselves not to do this, only does harm to us personally.

How did you decide to become a Graphic Designer?

Well, honestly, this was not a decision I made overnight. I have been in the world of creativity since I was 12 years old, when I started spending more and more time with the camera and somehow things started coming one after another. The knowledge of software got me into a situation (or two) where I had to do something that I later learned was a Graphic Designer’s work and honestly, I recognized myself in it.

I realized that it is something I can and want to do, that I want to use my previous experience in the field of photography and at the same time combine it with something new and interesting for me through which I will be able to communicate even better and convey some kind of message.

How much did the training at Semos Education help you in what you do today?

As I already said, I had the desire to work in the world of graphic design from before, but that certainly was not enough. I felt that I should acquire adequate knowledge in this field in order to start developing professionally. This is where the Graphic Design Academy, accredited by MES came onto stage, because working as a Graphic Designer is not just about the technical knowledge of one software, which I had before the training, although, of course, that was also a good start.

The Academy taught me how to think even more creatively before I start working on a project, how to communicate with a client and in general how to deliver what I do, how marketing fits into the whole story as well as the different fields that a Graphic Designer can work in.

In addition to the knowledge that I acquired; I also acquired a much clearer picture of what it means to be a Graphic Designer.

What was the role of the Career Center for the beginning of your career?

Semos Education Career Center was by my side all the way to my start of the career as a Graphic Designer. I came with a desire to learn and minimal prior knowledge in the field and left with several job offers and employment for which the Career Center made the first step and connected me with the company and so I started my career as a Graphic Designer.

What are you fascinated by at the moment and how do you fit it into your work?

I am constantly fascinated by the power of a well-done creative solution that communicates with a certain mass of people and how easily it can convey a message. That is why, as a Graphic Designer, I am looking for the right way every day to develop creatives that will appeal to a certain group of people and trigger the desired reaction in them.

What advice would you give to those who are currently looking for a job as a Graphic Designer?

To enroll at the Graphic Design Academy accredited by the Ministry of Education and Science at Semos Education and let the Career Center find job for them 😊.
Just kidding, of course (although I don’t rule out that possibility) and I will go back at what I said earlier. Work, persistence and constant research give results and quality. And those who have acquired these things will easily find their path.
